Aicey was born in Ayr, North Queensland Australia. His mother is an Aboriginal descendant of the Birrigubba Tribe of the traditional people of the Ayr & Burdekin area. His father was born on Murray Island (Mer) in the Torres Straits, which is the northern-most part of Queensland. (For more information see - http://www.tsra.gov.au)
Aicey has always loved to draw as a child his large family never had the luxury of having a T.V, so he would doodle by drawing cartoon characters to pass the time away. During his High School days Aicey found the art class a place of fun more than learning, and often found himself sitting outside the room. Ironically his former art teacher now calls on Aicey to hold Art workshops - where he once was ejected from class for disruption. But he did carry on to complete his education and then continued to further his artistic skills by enrolling in the Burdekin TAFE ATSI Art Class in 1999. This is where his true art skills came into full light and Aicey then went onto open his Art Gallery business after finding this calling.
With his aboriginal and islander cultural heritage Aicey has created a diverse range of art pieces in various media, including hand-painted silks, acrylic painting, hand-painted ceramics, and many other wonderful artistic works. His artworks all reflect his love for the flora and fauna of the land and sea of his traditional background and the local Burdekin area.
Aicey is fast becoming a well known local community figure and has many commissioned murals displayed prominently around the Burdekin district. Aicey and wife Bernice have been very involved in many local community projects and events, and they have become wonderful Indigenous Role models as business owners. They both love to share about their successes and have many awards that tell this full story (see Awards). They are very focused on building up the Zaro Cultural Gallery to continue to share the wonderful arts & crafts of the True Australian Culture.
Aicey is always working to create new artworks and designs, he will be continually working towards exhibiting his works to build on his art portfolio.
So keep in mind the name Aicey Zaro and now with this Online Store you too can purchase one of his original authentic Indigenous artworks.
